Just a beautiful, old piece from the general store days is this curved
front glass display case that once held Primley’s California Fruit And
Pepsin Chewing Gum. The advertising is etched on the front glass; the
case has two glass side panels, a wooden back and bottom. It's 18
inches long, 12 inches deep, and 9 inches tall at the taller back. The
original maker's plaque is at the bottom of the front; it reads J.
Riswig, Maker, Chicago. There's wear to the glazing of the glass; all
panels are stable. The bottom board has shrunk over the years and
shifts in its frame; one newer nail was added at some point. It looks
like the back door, which opens with the original latch, was painted at
one time and that paint has worn as shown. The inside bottom is a
little rough; I have seen one of these cases with a green felt covering
on that section. There are a few scratches to the glass, the etching
has to be seen in the right light to be perfectly visible (I have seen
one example with a mirror on 1/2 of the inside of the back door and this
may make some difference), and some wear to the wood in spots.
